FAQs

How often is my electricity meter read?

If you are a domestic electricity customer your meter is physically read 4 times a year by meter reading personnel. This will result in 2 planned estimations during the year. However large industrial and commercial installations will continue to be read 6 times a year.

What kind of notice am I entitled to before a planned interruption to my electricity supply, due to work on the network?

ESB Networks guarantee to provide at least 2 days notice for planned interruptions due to system upgrades or connecting new customers in your area. In cases where ESB Networks defaults on this guarantee a compensatory payment may be claimed. Short supply interruptions and interruptions due to system faults or third party actions, e.g. accidental construction damage, are not covered by this guarantee. Please see the CER approved ESB Networks Customer Charter on the ESB Networks website for more information on this and other guarantees.

How long can I expect to wait for a new connection?

The CER advises that applications for new connections be made as early as possible in the building or development process. ESB Networks provides a guarantee that they will connect your electricity within 2 weeks of receipt of the ETCI Completion Certificate provided the connection has been paid for 10 weeks before this certificate is issued. The guarantee is subject to the conditions set out in your quotation having been met e.g. ETCI Certificate, underground ducting completed etc. It is also subject to there being no major network reinforcement required to facilitate your connection.
