What is the CER’s role in the regulation of the electrical contracting industry?

Under section 4 of the Energy (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, to be commenced by the Minister Order, the CER will have statutory responsibility for the regulation of the activities of electrical contractors in Ireland with respect to safety.

There are two bodies in Ireland who act as regulatory bodies for electrical contractors.

How do I make a complaint about an electrical contractor’s work?

If you wish to make a complaint about the work of a registered electrical contractor you must contact that contractor’s regulatory body, either ECSSA or RECI.

How do I become a registered electrical contractor?

To become a registered electrical contractor you must be a member of either the Electrical Contractors Safety and Standards Association (ECSSA) or the Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland (RECI).
