We licence electricity and natural gas companies on a fair and equitable basis and set performance standards which we enforce.

We regulate downstream natural gas undertakings and upstream petroleum activities with respect to safety.

We regulate the activities of natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) installers and electrical contractors with respect to safety.

All the time, we continue to work to ensure that the supply of natural gas and electricity to customers is safe, secure and reliable and a quantity service is provided by all market particpants.

Safety and Customer Affairs Division
This division has responsibility for both energy safety and energy consumer issues.
Electricity Markets and Operations Division
The Electricity Markets division is responsible for overseeing electricity generation in Ireland as well joint regulation of the SEM with NIAUR. The Operations division is responsible for CER operations.
Gas, Legal and Renewables Division
This division is responsible for natural gas regulation, renewables and for providing legal advice to the CER.
Electricity Networks and Retail Division
This division oversees the regulation of Ireland's monopoly electricity transmission and distribution systems as well as the competitive retail electricity market.
