Electricity and Gas supply companies are responsible for giving their customers a reliable and quality service at a fair and reasonable price.  The CER's aim is to make sure this happens.

We do this by making sure that the supply companies have codes of practices and structures that protect consumers, ensure they are treated fairly, and provides options for seeking recourse when there are disputes. We also aim to help customers in dealing with their supplier and/ or network operator and to provide up to date and accurate information about energy bills and services.

In this section we provide information to customers on their rights as an energy consumer as well as helping customers to understand charges for electricity and natural gas and providing answers to frequently asked questions. Details are provided on the various suppliers in the market and how to change supplier, particularly in the electricity sector where the market has been open to competition since 2005.

This section also outlines what a customer should do if they have a problem with their bill, their connection to the electricity or natural gas network or any other issue relating to their electricity or gas supply.
