The accepted generation adequacy standard for Ireland is 8 hours loss of load expectation per year.
The TSO produces an annual Generation Adequacy Report which provides the TSO's considered view on one aspect of the power system, namely, generation adequacy, and the wider issues affecting it. Generation adequacy concerns the capability of the power production capacity to supply the electricity demand on the system.
As the development of new generation capacity and connection to the transmission system involves long lead times and high capital investment, the Generation Adequacy Report provides information covering a seven-year timeframe.
The general form of the document has been approved by the CER and this is reviewed by the CER in the context of its activities concerning security of supply.
