The CER’s functions in this area include making sure that appropriate measures are in place for the monitoring, assessing and managing of the security of supply and taking any necessary actions to protect the security of supply.
Also, in carrying out any of its duties, the CER must have regard to the need to promote the continuity, security and quality of the supply of electricity. Therefore when the CER regulates the System Operators (both TSO and DSO), licenses generators or carries out its regulatory duties in relation to regulating natural gas, it must have regard to security of supply. Also, in regulating services to end users and approving demand side management initiatives, security of supply must be taken into account.
