Security of Supply Report
In the Security of Supply of Electriciy Report, the CER describes its monitoring activities, presents the conclusions drawn from that monitoring and the measures being taken, or planned to be taken, to protect Ireland’s security of supply of electricity. The report examines the key areas of fuel, networks, generation and demand.
One of the other key information documents on the security of supply is the ‘Generation Adequacy Report’, which is published by Eirgrid, the Transmission System Operator, annually. This report is published at the end of the year and covers a period of 7 years.
Its purpose is to relate the forecast demand for electricity to the projected generation resources, in order to identify any requirement for generating capacity in Ireland under a variety of scenarios.
To date, three Security of Supply Reports have been published. This report is required to be submitted to the European Commission every 2 years, the latest falling due on 31st July 2010.
