GATE 3 - LIAISON GROUP

GATE 3 - Liaison Group

Following extensive public consultation, on 16th December 2008 the CER set out a final direction (CER/08/260) to the system operators on Gate 3 of Ireland’s network connection policy for renewable generators. In keeping with the Government target, this direction allows for 40% of Ireland’s electricity consumption coming from renewable generation by 2020. It does so by providing for circa 3,900 MW of renewable generator connection offers in Gate 3, through a defined rule set.

Now the focus has switched from the determination of Gate 3 renewable policy to the roll-out of the connection offers. In this vein, and as detailed in the Gate 3 direction, the CER has established a Gate 3 Liaison Group involving industry representatives. The aim of the Group is to discuss and communicate with stakeholders the progress of the Gate 3 offer programme. The Group meetings, which are held monthly, are organised by the CER and consist of representatives from the CER, the system operators and from the renewable and non-renewable generation sectors.
