The CER appointed the Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland (RECI) as the Gas Safety Supervisory Body (GSSB) in November 2008. RECI formed a company limited by guarantee called the Register of Gas Installers of Ireland (RGII) with the sole purpose of operating as the GSSB. The RGII, a wholly owned subsidiary of RECI, is responsible for regulating gas installers with respect to safety, on behalf of the CER. The RGII commenced registering gas installers on 5th January 2009 with the regulatory system becoming fully operational during 2009.
