Overview

Gas

This involves guiding the development of retail market rules and processes and ensuring that customers have adequate levels of service and protection provided to them by their suppliers.

Competition in the gas market for industrial and commercial customers has been in place since 2004 with three suppliers active in this segment. The CER has been working with industry participants to develop market processes to support full market opening and the development of competition for the benefit of all customers. Full market opening in the Irish natural gas market took place on 1st July 2007. All gas customers are now eligible to switch supplier.

All gas suppliers are licensed by the CER. A full list of licensed shippers and suppliers and their contact details can be found here

This section of the CER website also outlines the regulatory arrangements which the Commission has put in place to further the aim of a truly competitive retail gas market offering real value and quality service to customers.
