The CER has today (29th June 2012) published a Decision Paper on the Regulatory Treatment of the BGE gas interconnectors. This follows the publication of consultation papers CER/11/002 & CER/11/112 published in 2011 and a proposed decision paper CER/12/013 published in February 2012.

This decision sets out a forward looking Long Run Marginal Cost (LRMC) tariff methodology for dealing with all entry points (existing and new) to the Irish transmission system. The decision provides an appropriate signal for efficient new entry in a manner that is consistent with EU policy while at the same time containing upward pressure on tariffs and recongnising the crucial role the ICs play in scuring Ireland's long term energy supply requirements.

The CER is today (14th March 2012) publishing correspondence from DG Energy relating to CER/12/013.

Following a request from an industry stakeholder at the Public Meeting on 1st March, the CER agreed to publish correspondence from the European Commission on the Proposed Decision Paper, subject to securing the agreement of the European Commission. DG Energy has now given approval for its letter of 7th February 2012 to be published. DG Competition has requested that correspondence with the CER not be made public on the ground that the Commission’s State Aid investigation on foot of a complaint received is still ongoing. The CER has agreed to comply with this request.
