Connecting to the Network

They also publish a list of successful applicants for connection to the electrical system. This information lists names of generators and the installed capacity or proposed installed capacity of each.

These statistics can be viewed here.

Type of Connection
The first step in the connection process is establishing whether a transmission connection or distribution connection is needed. Typically large scale generation is connected to the transmission system. EirGrid recommend that a generator with a capacity less than 20 MW consider connection to the distribution system.
Group Connection Processing
Since December 2004 renewable generators wishing to connect to the transmission or distribution systems have been subject to group processing of connection applications through a series of successive “Gates”.
Contestability
Contestability is the right of transmission connected generators to construct all or part of their grid connection to the transmission system.
