Contestability is the right of transmission connected generators to construct all or part of their grid connection to the transmission system. Contestability was introduced in Ireland through S.I. No. 445 of 2000: European Communities (Internal Market in Electricity) Regulations, 2000. EirGrid published a Contestability and Connection Assets paper in March 2002 and a position paper entitled A Review of Contestability in 2006. Both documents can be downloaded from the EirGrid website.
